The increasing volume, speed, and complexity of business transactions are transforming the role of internal audit. Traditional periodic audits, while still important, may identify control failures, compliance issues, and emerging risks only after significant time has passed. Continuous auditing provides a more dynamic approach by using technology, automated testing, data analytics, and risk indicators to evaluate transactions and controls on an ongoing or more frequent basis.
This highly practical training course provides participants with the knowledge and tools required to design, implement, and manage an effective continuous auditing programme. It explores how audit teams can move from periodic, sample-based reviews toward automated analysis of larger populations of transactions, continuous control testing, exception monitoring, and timely assurance.
Participants will examine the relationship between continuous auditing, continuous monitoring, risk-based auditing, and data analytics. The course also addresses the use of dashboards, Key Risk Indicators (KRIs), automated alerts, process mining, artificial intelligence, and emerging audit technologies. Particular emphasis is placed on translating analytical findings into meaningful audit insights while maintaining appropriate professional judgement, governance, and audit independence.
